She passed from this life in North-West Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 24, 1987, at the age of sixty-five years. In her early childhood, June moved with her parents to Tyrone, Oklahoma, where she finished her Elementary education. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Camargo where June entered High School. Later in adult life, June completed a course in Home- Nursing. On June 1, 1941, June Gardner and Fred Sumpter was united in marriage at Mutual, Oklahoma. The youthful couple spent the first few monts following their marriage in Monticello, Utah, then returned to Dewey County, living for a time near Lenora before establishing a permanent home at Camargo where their five children, Hilda, Darrell, Willa June, Ronnie and Bobby, were born. June's greatest interests were her home and her family. She enjoyed her role in life as a homemaker, and in addition, was employed as Custodian of Camargo First State Bank for a period of twenty-nine years, and also with the Camargo School for three years. Following the death of her husband, Fred Sumpter, she was later united in marriage to Allen Wherritt at Seiling, Oklahoma, on June 16, 1981. The continued making their home in Camargo. June made her commitment of Faith in Christ on April 6, 1958, was baptized, and became a member of The Camargo First Christian Church. Through the years she served as Sunday School Teacher, as Bible School Teacher, and as a member of The Church Board, a willing and able assistant where ever she was needed. Her most enjoyalbe hobbies were gardening, and flower culture. She was a dedicated, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a helpful friend and neighbor. Mrs. Wherritt was preceded in death by her father, Hauda Gardner, husband, Fred Sumpter, and seven infant brothers, and one infant sister. She is survived by her husband, Allen Wherritt, of the home in Camargo; her mother, Maude Pollard of Vici; two daughters, Hilda Evans of Camargo and Willa June Laverty of Laverne, three sons, Darrell Sumpter of Pampa, Texas, Ronnis Sumper of Yukon, Oklahoma and Bobby Sumper of Ithaca, New York; one step-son, Harvey Wherritt of Yukon; and one step-daughter, Kathryn Edward of El Reno, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren and five step grandchildren, four sisters, Jewel McCulley of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; Maudie Ross of High Point, North Carolina; Margarett Griffin of Greensboro, North Carolina and Geneva Jones of Crawford, Texas, other loved ones, and many friends. Memorial services were held at the First Christian Church of Camargo, Oklahoma on Tuesday, October 27, 1987 with Eewl Vaughan officiating.
