She passed away March 18, 2006 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 18 years. Soon after her birth she moved with her family to Rankin, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma where she grew up. She was married to Rex Edward Ward at Rankin, OK on August 1, 1934 and shortly after that, they moved to California. They lived in Southern California until their return in the early 1970's, residing in Mangum, OK. She lived there with her husband and after he passed away for nearly 20 years. She mosst recently had resided at Central Oklahoma Christian home since June of 2004. Elsie lived an interesting life. She joined other Oklahoman's seeking a living in California during the Depression. She enjoyed her life there, but always considered herself an Oklahoman. Elsie was a sweet loving person her whole life. In her old age, she often remembered the wonderful times she enjoyed with her nieces and nephews. She loved children. She gave special attention to their grand nephews and thieir children and grandchildren. She spent her happiest times in her last years with the grandchildren of James and Valerfie Matthews in Oklahoma City. We will all misas her terribly. Survivors include a niece, Mildred Matthews and husband, James, Westerville, OH; grand nieces, Mary Casden, Columbus, OH and Dayna Brown, Kissimee, FL; grand nephews, Jim Matthews, Oklahoma Ciy, OK and Jim Mogg, Grapevine, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at Dempsey Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service of Elk City.
