All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Berlin Cemetery--Berlin OK Bessie LaRue Walker was born November 26, 1918 in the Herring community a few miles SW of the Herring school house the youngest child of James "Burl" & Lagolia "Mug" (Kemp) Stout. She passed away Monday, July 10, 2000, at 9:17am in the Elk City Nursing Home at the age of 81 years 7 months and 14 days.LaRue attended school at Herring and Cheyenne. LaRue married first William "Bill" Forgey, Jr. on June 22, 1935 who passed away 4 months after their marriage. She married 2nd Cleo Dawson Walker at Cheyenne on October 10, 1936. When they were first married they lived in Texas on a ranch. Except for a few years in TX, CA and OR LaRue lived most of her life in western OK primarily in Roger Mills & Beckham County where they farmed. Mr. Walker passed away on February 6, 1976 and she moved to Elk City in 1979. LaRue belonged to the Hammon and Berlin Round-Up Clubs and was a volunteer at the Elk City Nursing Home for several years. Besides farming and ranching, she worked at Sears and Roebuck in the 1950ís. In the early 1960ís LaRue worked at the Westland Theatre in Elk City. In the 1970ís, together with her husband, owned and operated Walkerís Country Grocery north of Sayre for several years. In Elk City, LaRue worked for Wal-Mart for several years. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening, doing yard work and writing poetry. She was a member of the Elk City Main Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cleo Walker, on February 6, 1976, and 3 sisters, Hazel Andris (Elk City, 1992), Johnnie Ashworth Morris (Amarillo, 1974), Louise Moore (Berlin, 1977) and 1 brother James Stout, Jr. (Elk City, 1954). She is survived by 5 children, Dale Walker and wife Mary, Elk City, Jeanetta Jackson, Gadsden, AL and fiancee Harry Payne, Hammon, Donnie Walker and wife Lynda, Sweetwater, Robert Walker, Edmond, Tamie Phillips and husband Gary, Sayre; a sister Lagolia Finchum, OKC and brother Seth "Buck" Stout and wife Lorraine, Elk City, 2 brother-in- laws, Glenn Moore, Berlin, Herman Walker, Richland, MO, and 2 sister- in-laws Marie Stout & Ola Walker both of Elk City; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren over the states of AL, LA, OK, and TX; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives, as well as her special friend Margaret (Vaught) Hunt, Elk City, and many friends. Services will be held, July 15, 2000 at 10:30 AM at Whinery-Savage Chapel, officiated by James Perkey.
