Young came to Chneyenne with his family in the early part of 1900 and engaged in the mercantile business with F.E. Herring forming a co-partnership known as Herring and Young. When the C.& O.W. extended its line west from Weatherford and Elk City sprang into existence, Mr. Young became the manager of a farm store at that place, which position he successfully held til his death last Monday. Mr. Young was a man who held the confidence and respect of everyone who formed his acquaintance or had business relations with him. During his many years in the mercantile business he mantained the highest reputation for honesty and integrity. The firm of Herring and Young is the largest retail firm in Western Oklahoma having stores at Elk City, Foss, Erick, Hammon and Strong City. The wonderful growth of this firm has been largely because of the character of the men who compose the firm for wheth Mr. Young deserved a full share of the honor. Mr. Young had been critically ill for several weeks and his demise was njot a great surprise to those who knew best his true condition. Funeral services were conducted at the large tabernacle which has been prepared for a revival in progress in Elk City. It proved to be far to small for the immence crowd that gathered to pay their last respects to their departed friend. The body was escorted first by the Herring & Young business family, next by the Masonic Lodge of which he was a faithful member, aftger the hearse came the relatives and a throng of friends which composed the largest funera procession ever witnessed in Elk City. Mr. Young leaves a widow and two sons, L.D. of Elk City and Ford of Willow, besides many other relatives and a legion of friends. The editor claimes O.H. Young as one os his very best friends and it is with a great deal of sorrow that we chronicle his death. He his family join the many others in extending deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
