Mrs. Young, whose husband was the late W.A. Young, was widely known ranchman, had been a resident of Roger Mills county since 1894, moving to Elk City about 11 years ago to make her home with her daughter. A native of Pulaski, Iowa, where she was born August 11, 1845, Mrs Young moved with her husband from Topeka, Kansas to the Texas Panhandle in 1879. There they established their ranch, moving east into Oklahoma Territory with the opening of the Cheyenne-Arapaho country. Before the Cheyenne-Arapaho country was opened the Young established a horse ranch camp on Dead Indian creek, north of the present town of Cheyenne. The camp was established there as early as 1880 and when the country was opened for settlement. Mr. Young and his sons staked the claims on Dead Indian Creek. Mr. Young died December 1, 1935. Mrs. Young is survived by three sons, two brothers, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Sons are Clyde Young, Cheyenne; Roy C. Young, Tulare, California; Leon Young, Strong City, Oklahoma. The daughter, Mrs. Gowdy, lives in Elk City. The sisters surviving are Mrs. Sackie Ford, Independence, Missouri; Mrs. Katherine Wood, Topeka, Kansas; and Mrs. Ray Ditrich, Bernice, Idaho. Brothers are Ward Hopkins of Clear Lake, Colorado, and J.H. Hopkins of Woodward, Oklahoma.
