Atkinson Services for Lloyd J. Atkinson will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003 at the Walker-Browne Chapel in Bartlesville. Interment follows at the Wyandotte Cemetery, Wyandotte. He passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Claremore after an extended illness. He was 78. Lloyd was born April 22, 1925 in Cardin. He grew up in Wyandotte, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1943. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a Naval Scholarship and was activated to combat service aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Caine in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Upon his discharge from active duty, he attended and graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami. He was then employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville. After many years with Phillips in London, England, he retired in 1986 to his home in Dewey. He married Nancy Elizabeth Powers in 1948. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Nancy Atkinson of Dewey; daughter, Patricia Atkinson Matthews and husband, Larry of Tahlequah; son, Dr. Jim Atkinson and wife, Dede of Claremore; grandsons, Bradley, Andrew and Corey Matthews of Tahlequah and Kristofer Atkison of Claremore. The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the V.F.W., 310 E. Don Tyler, Dewey, OK, 74029 or the Alzheimer Association of Oklahoma Chapter, 6465 S. Yale, Suite 206, Tulsa, OK, 74136.
