Burial followed at Hogan Cemetery, south of Locust Grove. Services were under the direction of Key Funeral Home. Allen was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Galatia, Ill., and passed away at his home in Locust Grove on July 23, 2002. Born to Robert Lincoln and Emma (Smiley) Allen, James was raised on the family farm in Galatia. He attended school at The Cedar Point School near his home. The oldest of six children, he learned early the value of responsibility and hard work, sharing much of the duties in operating the farm as well as taking care of his younger siblings. After Allen finished high school, he served in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster Second Class on the USS Lamberton during World War II. He also served in the U.S. Air Force where he was a Korean War Veteran. When he retired from the Air Force in 1966, he had a total of 22 years military service. On May 1, 1951 Allen and Phyllis Fleming were married in Belleville, Ill. She preceded him in death a short time ago. In his spare time, Allen enjoyed fishing, sports, traveling and being with friends and family. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Locust Grove Masonic Lodge and VFW. He was a loving father, grandfather, friend and husband and will be greatly missed by all that shared in his life. Also preceding him were a sister, one son and his parents.
