His friend and pastor, Rev. Paul Simpson, officiated. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Charles passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003. Born Aug. 6, 1922 in Sapulpa to Ben and Helen McCabe Balsano, Charles was reared and educated in Tulsa. Following World War II service in the U.S. Navy, he worked for Bethlehem Steel as a machine shop inspector. He was next employed by Texaco as a machinist.On Feb. 13, 1942, Charles and Pauline Holloway were married in Tulsa. This union was blessed with three children. Charles and Pauline moved to Claremore in 1973 and have called this their home since.Charles played amateur hockey in Tulsa and continued to participate by teaching roller skating for many years. Proud of his military service, he kept in touch with lifelong friends, members of the Patsu 1-7, or Patrol Aircraft Technical Service Unit. He had attended a naval reunion as recently as last October. Charles is survived by his wife, Pauline of the home in Claremore; children, Charline Lewis of Webb City, Mo., Charlotte Thomas of Pensacola, Fla., and Ben Balsano of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Cheryl McPherson, Dr. Kim Magalski, Keith Lewis, Lindsey Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Jennifer Sjoblom, Sean Balsano and Laura Balsano; and great-grandchildren, Heather and Sami McPherson.
