Steve Hanchett officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service. Visitation will be at the funeral home until 8 p.m. Tuesday; the family will greet visitors from 6-8 p.m. Clara died Saturday, March 1, at Claremore Regional Hospital at the age of 84. The daughter of William Wesley and Lora Ethel Brown Mayhue was born Jan. 11, 1919 in Waco, Texas. She graduated from Russell High School in Durant and attended Southeastern State College. Clara married Clarence "Elmer" Bird on May 22, 1943 in Tulsa. They lived in Chelsea and Tulsa before moving to Claremore 46 years ago. Clara worked as a prep cook at Sirloin Stockade and after it closed, worked at Golden Corral. She was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, the Home Demonstration Club, and the Holiday Rambler RV Club. Clara and Elmer enjoyed traveling together. Clara loved being with and caring for her family and enjoyed making arts and crafts. She also enjoyed cooking; she grew her own vegetables for many years and enjoyed taking care of her flowers and plants. Clara also enjoyed caring for her cat, Misty. Clara is preceded in death by her son, Steven "Neal" Bird; her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her sons, Michael Eugene Bird and wife, Jane Ann of Nowata and James "Alan" Bird and wife, Stacia of Claremore; sister, Mildred Candelaria of Duarte, Calif.; grandchildren, Jason Bird and wife, Terra of Owasso, Audra Bird of Claremore, Molly and Matthew Bird of Tulsa and Michael Edward Bird of Kansas; and great-granddaughter, Kylee Bird of Owasso.
