Rev. Sam Nichols and Rev. Charles Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Opal passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2002. She was 94. Born in Pryor, Okla. on May 21, 1908 to Jess J. and Lura King Gardner, Opal was reared and educated in the Claremore area. Baptized in 1919, Opal committed her life to her Lord at a young age. For 83 years she was a member at First Baptist Church, one of the longest continuous members of that congregation. Opal was blessed with three children, Charles, George and Shirley. Her children and her church were her life. She worked at Rexall Drug until it closed its doors and then moved to Wal-Mart pharmacy when it first opened in Claremore. She was a member of Credit Women's International. Opal served faithfully in her church family and particularly enjoyed working with younger children she taught in Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed reading the word of the Lord from her Bible. Opal is survived by her daughter Shirley and husband Don Taylor of Dickinson, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
