Rev. Tommy Igler will officiate. Burial follows at Adair Cemetery in Adair under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Jim passed away at his home Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, with his family by his side. He was 86. Born Oct. 15, 1916 in Locust Grove, he was the son of Henry Alexander and Abby Icy Waters Brown. Jim was reared and educated in his birth community. After graduating from high school in Locust Grove, he continued to make this community home. Jim began his career as an iron worker and one of his first jobs was the Grand River Dam project. He also contributed to the construction of the Tulsa Expo Center, Williams Center, the BOk Building and St. Francis Hospital during his long and successful career. On April 16, 1946, Jim married Verna Jewel Brown in a ceremony at Columbus, Kan. The couple made their first home in Adair and later moved to Oregon before coming back to Oklahoma. For the last 35 years, they have lived in the Catoosa area. When Jim found time away from work, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing dominoes and being with his friends and family. Survivors are his wife, Verna, of the home in Catoosa, children, Fay Clow and husband Ronny of Choctaw, Smoky Brown and wife Sylvia of Claremore, Les and wife Barbra of Catoosa, Sharon Kyles and husband David of Tulsa, Daniel Brown and wife Vickie of Catoosa, Miriam Brown of Spencer, Gloria Arneecher and husband Clifford of Catoosa, Glenda Trett and husband Donald of Claremore and MaDawna Brown-White and husband Timothy of Catoosa; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Pauline Tarpening of Springfield, Ore., and Cynthia Forrest of Visalia, Calif.
