All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Published in the Contra Costa Times on 5/25/2004 Cox, Barbara Jean Thompson June 19, 1950 - May 22, 2004 Barbara was born in Claremore, Oklahoma to Wanda and Robert Thompson. She grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas and then moved to Dallas her sophomore year in high school. After graduating from Lake Highlands High School in 1968, she earned her B.S. degree in Social Work from Texas Women's University in 1972. Barbara practiced her degree as director of Camp Fire Girls and then director of Family Outreach, a volunteer agency with oversight from the Texas Department of Child Welfare. Barbara was happiest when sightseeing and traveling with her family, camping with Girl Scouts, and being with her many friends. She loved the purr of her cats, arts and crafts, her beautiful doll collection, and especially genealogy research. But above all, she was everything that a mother can be, a loving mentor and a best friend. Her positive, caring, and warm heart will continue to be a true inspiration to all those who are fortunate enough to have known her. She made and maintained friends everywhere she lived: Wichita Falls and Dallas, Texas, Gaithersburg, Maryland and Lafayette, California. Barbara stayed strong, never losing her determined spirit. She could always light up a room with her bright smile, no matter how much pain she endured. She passed away peacefully Saturday morning, surrounded by loving words from family and friends. Barbara's sweet spirit will continue to live on through her husband Gerald, daughters Cynthia and Catherine, sisters Carolyn Younkin and Cindy Thompson, step-father Charl Moore, nephews Charlton Younkin and Clayton Younkin, niece Carissa Younkin and many beloved friends. We are all thankful to have shared our favorite memories with Barbara. She will be dearly missed. The memorial service will be held for Barbara in Lafayette, California at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church in the chapel Tuesday, May 25th at 4:00 PM. Visitation hours at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel are from 9:00 AM to 2:00PM prior to service. Funeral and subsequent burial services will be held at the First Christian Church in Claremore, Oklahoma on Friday, May 28th at 2:00 PM.
