Rev. Curtis Owens will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, under direction of Musgrove- Merriott-Smith Funeral Service. Visitation will beat the funeral home Sunday 1-6 p.m. and Monday 9-11 a.m. Velma died Wed., Jan. 22, at her home at the age of 100. The daughter of Charles B. and Martha Jane Crain was born June 11, 1902, in Flint, Oklahoma Indian Territory. At the age of 15 Velma moved to Claremore. In 1918, she married David Newton (Newt) Collins in Mayes County, and they made their home in Claremore. During World War II, Velma worked at Douglas, and later as a clerk at McClellan's Department Store in Claremore. She attended First Assembly of God and enjoyed quilting, gardening, and fishing. Velma celebrated her 100th birthday party in June and received a commemorative plaque and a citation of congratulations from Senator Stratton Taylor and greetings from President george W. Bush and Congressman Brad Carson. Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Newt, parents, Charles and Martha Crain, daughters, Edith Holland, Joyce Turman, and Lucille Marshall Bernard, brothers, James Power, Guy Everett, Fountain Lee, Clella Albertis, William Andrew and Oren Ransom, sisters, Alta Belle, Mary Lezette and Clercy Emma Bertha,and grandchildren, Johnny Marshall, Billy Max Turman, Bonita Larson and Sonja Marshall. Survivors include her children, Bill Collins and wife, Betty, Pauline Warren and husband, Haskell, and Louise Gardner all of Claremore, grandchildren: Jim Holland of Broken Arrow, Samuel Turman of Claremore, Larry and Gary Warren of Claremore, Rick Warren of Florida, Tony Warren of Colorado, Linda Ewton and Vernon Marshall of Claremore, David Gardner of Nebraska, Phillip Gardner of Missouri, Anita Horner of Claremore, Colleen Robertson of Texas, Newt Collins of Tecumseh, and Vickie Myrick of Catoosa; 40 great-grandchildren, and 48 great-great-grandchildren.
