Rev. Galen Lassiter will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service, Claremore. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday. The son of Frank and Mary Norwood Chambers was born Aug. 24, 1916 in Perryton, Texas. The family moved to Claremore when Sam was about seven years old. Sam grew up on a farm near Sequoyah and attended school there. He married Gladys Bond in 1936; she died in October of 1937. On Aug. 1, 1941, Sam married Rachel Massey. He then entered World War II and served almost four years with the 372nd Combat Engineer Battalion in England, France and Germany until the war ended. He returned to Claremore, at first working as a carpenter, then became a rancher/dairy farmer until 1951, when he left the farm and returned to the construction trade. Rachel died in 1981. After his retirement, Sam ran a fruit and vegetable stand. In March of 1987, Sam married Johnnie Reed of Warner, Okla., and spent the remaining 15 years of his life in Warner, where he was active in the Senior Citizens group and enjoyed dancing, fishing, woodworking and gardening. Sam is survived by sons, Raymond Chambers and wife Shirley of Tucson, Ariz., Bob Chambers of Claremore, Earl Chambers and wife Nita of Claremore, Jim Chambers of Claremore, Horace Reed and wife Shirley of Nowata, Bill Reed and wife Carlyn of Edmond, Charles Reed and wife Susan of Warner, Virgil Reed and wife Linda of Claremore, and Donald Reed and wife Lana of Muskogee; daughters, Norma Casey of Claremore, Annie Sargent of Tulsa and Carolyn Draper and husband Dave of Tulsa; 35 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dan Chambers of Oceola, Mo., and Key Chambers of Claremore; sister, Melba Moore of Dumas, Texas; and other relatives and numerous friends. ************************************************************************* We thank the Claremore Progess Newspaper for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
