Orval passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 at the age of 86. Louis and Cora Ishmael Doty, Orval's parents, were part of the Oklahoma land run and claimed 40 acres in Leedey in western Oklahoma. Orval was born on Feb. 29, 1916 in Drummond. He spent his youth in several Oklahoma communities before the family settled in Tiawah. On Sept. 2, 1939, Orval and Tiawah native Dolly Faye Willhoite were married at Tulsa. They had met at church and Dolly Faye inspired Orval to make a commitment to the church - this commitment endured throughout his life. The family lived first in Tiawah and later Oologah until 1948 when Duncan became home. In 1952, the family returned to the Tiawah and Claremore area permanently. Three children blessed this union, Edwin, Orlene and Gene. In 1998, Orval and Dolly Faye were involved in an automobile accident which took Dolly's life. Orval's church family rallied round him. And one special person and lifelong friend was able to offer encouragement that others couldn't. Edna Nelson, also recently widowed, became Mrs. Orval Doty on Nov. 28, 1998, in a ceremony of family and friends at Bethel Tabernacle. The love and devotion the two had for each other brought them both much happiness these past years. A truly unique man, Orval had a work ethic that began early in his life. Much of that hard work and God-given expertise was done as a carpenter and a farmer. Though never formally trained in either, he was capable of building anything and repairing everything. These were talents that he passed to the next generation, with even his daughter capable of similar things. During his last stay in the hospital, he expressed concern for his beloved garden, requesting that Edna remember to water the turnips. A dad, a hero, a mentor and a buddy, Orval was a people person. Those will find it difficult to say even a temporary goodbye to this great man include his wife, Edna of their home in Claremore; children, Edwin Doty and his wife, Sharon, also of Claremore, Orlene Boyd and her husband, Gene, of Humble, Texas, and Gene Doty and his wife, JoAnn, of Claremore; his granddaughters; his great-granddaughters and great-grandsons; and stepchildren, Duane Nelson of Disney and Shirley Willhoite of Claremore. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly Faye Doty; two brothers and four sisters. ************************************************************************* Transcribed from the Claremore Progess Newspaper, we sincerely thank them for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
