Betty Ward Dowden

Funeral service for Betty Ward Dowden will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 at First 
United Methodist Church in Claremore. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial 
Gardens under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service. 
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Betty died Monday, Dec. 9 at her home at the age of 60.

The daughter of Cletis Ray and Edith Bentley Ward was born Nov. 12, 1942 at 
Franklin Hospital in Claremore. 

She attended Love and Bushyhead schools and graduated from Foyil High School. 

Betty married William "Ronald" Dowden on June 9, 1961 at Pappaw and Granny 
Bentley's home in Foyil.

Betty had an amazing green thumb. She loved working in her yard and with Ronald 
in their vegetable garden and greenhouse. She also had a strong love of people. 

During the years, she worked outside of the home, she chose to work at Pickett's 
Nursery with plants and at Tacora Mart with people. 

But the most important thing in her life was the Dowden home, filled with her 
beloved family and friends. She filled that home with laughter, true friendship 
and, most importantly, with love.

Betty is preceded in death by her son, Bobby Dowden; grandparents, Pappaw and 
Granny Bentley; and grandson, Garrett Ward Martin.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ronald; their two daughters, 
sons-in-law and their two special family members, Patricia and Todd Jochims 
and sons, Ryan and Nick, Ronda and Gary Martin and sons, Gary Jr., Greg, Glen 
and Garth, Christie Hicks Dowden and daughters, Tara, Tracy and Tasha, and 
Cherity James Harper and daughter, Hannah; her parents, Cletis and Edith Ward; 
brothers, Bill Ward and wife, Joy of Claremore, Ronnie Ward and wife, Holly of 
Fairfield, Mont., Tom Ward and wife, Diane, Roger Ward and wife, Debbie and 
Wayne 
Ward and wife, Kathy, all of Claremore; and sisters, Barbara Morgan and husband, 
Mike of Dallas, and Linda Smith and husband, John of Claremore; many nieces 
and nephews.
