Archives. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/rogers/rogers.htm *********************************************************************** Fred Draeger Monday Rites for Draeger, Pioneer Business Man Services for Fred Draeger, 83, pioneer Chelsea business man and resident for 68 years, were conducted Monday after-noon from the Baptist church by the pastor, the Rev. Hubert Fugitt, and Richard L. Billings. Bearers were (smear, appears to be Lee Gordan,) J.P. Morgan, E.G. Goddard, Joe Martin. Kenneth Stroud and William A. York. Burial was in Chelsea cemetary under direction of Paul Merriott Funeral Services. Draeger died Saturday in a Claremore nursing home following a lenghty illiness. He had been in failing health for some time. A native of Iowa, Draeger was born April 26, 1886 in Claremont, the son of Herman and Emilia Draeger. As a youth, he came with his parents to the old Indian Territory, locating in Chelsea Community in 1902. He farmed and worked and as a teamster in the oil fields. He and his father opened Chelseas first Service station, located at Olive and Seventh. Later they they moved the business to the intersection of the main street and highway 66. for some years, he and the late Fred Breckinridge were partners. Draeger operated the business for some 35 years before retiring. Draeger was twice married, to Mae Price and Bessie Palmour Murphy who preceeded him in death. Draeger was active in work of the Baptist as long as his health permitted. Surviving are a sister and three brothers, Mrs. Chester A.(Clara) Cherrington, Otto and Richard C. Draeger of Chelsea, and Herman J. Draeger, Claremore; and a stepdaughter, Laverne Murphy Fitzgerald, Ames Iowa. ***********************************************************************
