Edmiston (nee Wahneta Wynonna Hurd) died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002. She was 90. A memorial service celebrating her life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 at the New Hope Church of God in Claremore. Family will be at the church to greet relatives and friends at 1 p.m., prior to the service. A proud Oklahoman, she was born in Talala on Sept. 10, 1911 and graduated from Talala High School, where she was a forward on the girls state championship basketball team. A gifted musician, she sang, played the piano and organ. In 1930, she married Carl L. Edmiston of Nowata, where they made their home. As a team, they worked together as pastors of churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, Wisconsin and California, returning to Claremore to retire in 1976 after more than 50 years in the ministry. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Carl Louis Edmiston, who died in 1995, two months before what would have been their 65th wedding anniversary; parents, Arthur (A.W.) and Millie Hurd; brothers, Vernon, Asa and Myron Hurd; sisters, Grace Hurd Skidmore and Mary Hurd Mills. Survivors include daughter Nita Cunningham-Kaplin and husband Jonathan; son, Gilbert L Edmiston and wife Ardith of Raytown, Mo.; grandchildren, Elliott Cunningham and wife Mary Kathryn of Frankline, Tenn., Randy Cunningham and wife Debbie, Trey Cunningham and wife Dawn of San Antonio, Texas, Lisa Cunningham Arcara and husband David of New York, N.Y., Paul Edmiston and wife Christina of Houston, Texas, Shawn Edmiston Gray and husband Jason of Leewood, Kan., and Amy Edmiston Lawson and husband Steve of Lee's Summit, Mo.; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, Louise Hurd Pruett of Nowata, Imogene Hurd Standeford of Sand Springs, Marieta Mills McGuire and Valeta Skidmore Stephens of Claremore; and nephews, Mark and Wendell (Pete) Hurd of Ponca City, Raymond Skidmore of Yale, Dr. Eric Hurd of Dallas, Texas and Norman Hurd Mills of Atlantic, Iowa.
