The Rev. Galen Lassiter, a longtime, dear friend, will officiate. Friends may visit the Gruenberg family on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Rice Funeral Service, 631 E. Will Rogers Blvd., Claremore. At Charles? request, coffee, punch and cookies will be served. Charles passed away Sunday morning, March 9, 2003 at his home, with his family by his side, after he lead them through life?s final challenge with a courage and dignity drawn from his great faith and knowledge of the Lord. Charles was born Sept. 19, 1927 in Vinita. He was the son of Hugo ?Hap? and Ida Flood Gruenberg. He was raised and educated in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School, a place of true heritage, as it is the alma mater of his parents and is now where his son, Paul, serves as school principal. Charles continued his education at Spartan School of Aeronautics, receiving an associate?s degree in aeronautical engineering in 1947. He spent two years at the University of Oklahoma before beginning a full-time career with Qual-Tron, Inc., an electronics manufacturing company in Tulsa. His duties during his 41-year career included vice president of sales, executive vice president and associate secretary of the corporation. He became a member of the Delta Masonic Lodge in 1958. Charles met Betty Jean Ross in 1956 through the young adult fellowship at Boston Avenue Methodist Church. They married on June 8, 1957 in the Presbyterian Church in Tahlequah. A young graduate of the Arthur Murray Dance School, Charles literally swept Betty off her feet. After honeymooning in Mexico City, they made their first home in Tulsa, where they lived for 25 years before moving to Bixby for another 15 years. They finally settled in Claremore five years ago to be closer to their two sons and their families. Some might have referred to this as Charles? retirement, but in reality, he never stopped working, especially for his community. One way he did that in Claremore and Rogers County was for the Planning Commission, resigning reluctantly only as declining health required that he do so. His family was the light of his life and Charles was always supportive of his sons and their endeavors. As the family grew to include grand- children, many sporting events, piano recitals and hunting trips were wonderful opportunities for Charles and Betty to travel and enjoy the successes of these special young people. Charles would say that he had a wonderful 75 years of life and was blessed with a beautiful family and many dear friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; brother, Bill of Dearborn Heights, Mich., as well as two sons, Robert and his wife, Shea, and Paul and his wife, Shelly, all of Claremore. Also, his grandchildren, Natalie, Brock, Ross, Cameron, Blake and Paige, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Charles? honor may be made to Crossroads Hospice Foundation, 9916 E. 43rd St., Suite A, Tulsa, OK, 74146, phone 663-3234. ************************************************************************* Transcribed from the Claremore Progess Newspaper, we sincerely thank them for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ copyright c 2002-2003, by webmaster Rogers Co.
