Rev. Ray Crawford will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Phyllis passed away on Friday, July 12, 2002 at the age of 59. Born in Little Rock, Ark., on Aug. 4, 1942 to Paul and Mildred Erwin Hopper, Phyllis' early childhood years were spend in Cedartown, Ga. Following a family move to Benton, Ark., she graduated from Benton High School. She attended Texas Womens University and also University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Phyllis went to work for American General Life Insurance Company in Houston. It was here that she became best friends with Jane (Hastings) Anderson who arranged a meeting with her brother, Jerry. L. Hastings. Phyllis and Jerry began to date and were later married on Nov. 18, 1972. After their marriage, the couple settled in Los Angeles. Phyllis continued working in the insurance industry until the birth of their first child, Jeremy. At that time, she devoted her full attention to her family. Several years later, Jerry was transferred to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where daughter Jenna was born. In 1979, the family moved to Claremore, where both Jeremy and Jenna graduated from high school. Phyllis was actively involved in their schooling and even opened her home to two foreign exchange students, Christian Petersen of Denmark and Srdjan Nozica of Bosnia. Phyllis was involved with the Rogers County Adult Day Care, where she organized the arts and crafts activities. She had a special place in her heart for the people there. She also enjoyed her church activities, such as singing and playing in the bell choir. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jerry of their home in Claremore; son, Jeremy Hastings of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Jenna Hastings of Chicago, Ill.; stepson, Robert Hastings and wife Lisa of Jackson, Tenn.; granddaughter, Elizabeth "Lexie" Hastings," also of Jackson; and sister-in-law, Jane Anderson and husband Thomas of Kingwood, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Howard Hopper and brother-in-law, Gene Hastings.
