Hale PIONEER CITIZEN PASSES AWAY Howard Hale, Early Day Merchant Dies Following Illness; Services Tuesday Howard Hale, son of John W. and Elizabeth Peck Hale, was born at Cave Springs, Mo., May 10, 1866, and departed this life Jan. 2,, 1944, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 22 days. Mr. Hale came to Indian territory in 1904 and lived in and around Claremore from that time until death. He was united in marriage to Ada Goins on Jan. 20, 1887. To this union 3 sons survive, Howard Hale of Tulsa, Homer Hale of Colton, Cal., and Leonard Hale of Denver, Colo. Having lost his first wife by death, Mr. Hale was united in marriage in 1934 to Alice Whalf of Claremore who survives him. Mr. Hale joined the Christian church at the age of 18. In addition to his wife and sons, those who live to mourn his departure are three grandchildren, Patsy Howard, Wallace Hale and Lois Hale; six brothers, Allen Hale, Junction City, Ark., Tom Hale, Claremore, Charlie Hale, Boswell, Okla., John Hale, Clovis, New Mexico, Grinufield [sic - should be Grincefield] Hale, Macom [sic], Ga. George Hale, Little Rock, Ark., and three sisters, Mrs. Bill Allston, Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. Lou Dowdy, Spearman, Texas; Bessie Cruce, Brownfield, Texas; and other relatives and many friends and neighbors. Mr. Hale engaged in the mercantile and feed business in Claremore for many years. Rev. Guy E. McPherson officiated at funeral services at the Christian church, under direction of Parker-Bernhardt funeral home. Burial was at Woodlawn cemetery. Pallbearers were George Feezell, John Curry, Riley Haggard, Dr. Clyde O'Dell, B. F. Knight and R. L. Thomas. Music was under direction of Mrs. Q. A. Mason at the piano. A quartet composed of Mesdames H. G. Stallings, aCrl[sic] Olson, W. E. Sunday and Miss Mable Stierwalt furnished the music. --Claremore Progress, Claremore, Oklahoma, 5 January 1944
