Pastor Gary Howard will officiate. Friends may visit at Rice Funeral Service from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Ralph was born in the Sageeyah community of rural Claremore, on May 31, 1928, the eldest of four children born to Leroy and Jessie Eye Hanes - his proud, Cherokee heritage passed down by both parents. Ralph attended school at both Sageeyah and Claremore until entering the military. He served in the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman with more than a year spent in Germany. While in the military, he and Mildred York married. They called Chelsea home. On April 17, 1973, he began a 29-year marriage union with Patsy Easky. He presided as head of his large and loving family until his passing. He was an excellent father, grandfather and great-grandfather, beloved by all the family as well as many whom he befriended and loved as his own. After his honorable discharge from his military service, Ralph began a lifelong career as an oilman, a family tradition that spanned more than 40 years. Ralph had the privilege of partnering with both his father in his early career years and his son, Bryan, and daughter, Patti, in those later days. Though busy in his work efforts, Ralph took time for many other things that were very important to him. He served several years as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Chelsea. His love of horses afforded him a unique skill in breaking and training them. He was a founding member of the Rogers County Appaloosa Horse Association. He also served as both inspector and director of the Oklahoma Pinto Horse Association. He was also a founding member of that organization. That love of horses began early in Ralph's life. Among his favorite stories were those of his time spent as a cowboy on a ranch in Colorado prior to his entry into the Army. When he wasn't working or serving his fellow man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in almost any form. He used the bow, he used black powder, he hunted birds and squirrels and he fished on any lake or pond that was wet. Since Ralph was a friend to everyone he met, he will be missed by so many. Family members that survive are his wife Pat of their home in Wann; four children, Bryan Hanes and wife Flo of Bartlesville, Tommy Mayes and wife Annette of Tulsa, Lori Hastings and husband Gene of Claremore and Patti Herrera and husband John of Columbus, Ohio; a niece that resided in Ralph's home for many years, Patsy Ann Dreadfulwater-Helms and husband Robert of Chelsea; brothers, Kenneth Hanes and wife Rosemary of Claremore and Meloy Hanes and wife Noi of Bangkok, Thailand; sister, Sonora Lessley of Claremore; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren ************************************************************************* Transcribed from the Claremore Progess Newspaper, we sincerely thank them for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
