Mark Carter, minister of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service. Visitation will be at the funeral home until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Pete died Friday, Jan. 17, at St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa, at the age of 72. The son of William Arthur and Allie McClendon Hendrix was born June 6, 1930 in Claremore. Pete graduated from Claremore High School in 1948. He joined the Army immediately after high school and served in Korea for one year during the Korean War. Upon returning home after the war, Pete started dating Barbara Jean Munson and they were married Feb. 9, 1953, in Bentonville, Ark. They made their home in Claremore and lived in the Belvidere for a year after their marriage. Pete graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy in 1955. He owned and operated the Hendrix Auto Salvage and in 1962 went to work for the Claremore Post Office. He worked as a rural mail carrier for 16 years. Pete also owned and operated the Melody Motel on Will Rogers Boulevard and the Southside DX gas station, south of Claremore. In 1976, Pete and his son, Tony, started Hendrix Excavation, which he continued until his retirement in 1999. Pete served on the Claremore School Board and the Claremore City Council. He coached his sons in youth baseball for six years. He was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved doing things with his children like fishing, riding horses, cutting wood and working cattle. He enjoyed each of his grandchildren and made each one feel special. He also enjoyed watching them ride motorcycles and swim and spent time talking to each one. He had many, many lifelong friends that he enjoyed and cared so much about. He instilled kindness, a sense of humor, hard work and love in his family. He will be greatly missed. Pete is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Mae Hendrix. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home, children: Tony Hendrix and wife, Carrie, and their children, William Aric Hendrix, Chance Hendrix and Carlena Rickey, Steve Hendrix and wife, Debbie, and their children, William Matthew, Bailey and Lacey Hendrix, Jamil Haynes and husband, Gene and their children, Eugene, Alex, Hailey and Sierra Haynes, and Kelli Fleak and husband, Brion, and their children, Kody, Kory and Kaci Fleak, brother, Randle Hendrix and wife, Ruth, sister-in-law Joanne Stephens and husband Lewis.
