All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Joe E King Services: Tues., April 8, 1:30 p.m. Services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel. 2739 Panama Ln., today, April 8, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. Joe E King was born in Erie, Kansas, on February 29, 1936, to Augustus Newton and Dorothea Johanna King. He passed away on April 4, 2003, at the age of 67. Joe was raised in Sterling, Kansas, where he participated in sports and broke several school track records. He was a life guard and swim instructor at Sterling Lake. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force and was in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) stationed at Lincoln, Nebraska. Afterwards he moved to Colorado. He married Joyce Harms with whom he had two children. Jocelyn Esther and Jay Erin. Joe and Joyce later divorced. Joe worked in the construction business most of his life as a job superintendent, carpenter, design engineer and contractor. He built the summit house on Pikes Peak and schools in the Dillon Valley. He worked as a building official for Garfield County and City of Rifle, Colorado. In 1984 he married Janice Snider. Due to her job with OXY, they transferred and made their home in Denver, Colorado; Claremore, Oklahoma; Midland, Texas and now Bakersfield, California. At each place he made lasting friendships. He was responsible for getting folks to become better acquainted with their neighbors. He loved kids and made a positive impact on their lives. Joe did many things during his lifetime including truck gardening, taxidermy, mushroom hunting, and raising iris. He enjoyed watching the dancers at Centre Stage, attending school activities and softball games. His hobbies included cooking, reading, emailing, painting and telling stories. Joe was a very caring person. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Janice; son, Jay King of Kingman, Arizona; daughter, Jocelyn Cessar; granddaughters, Tarrah and Leah of Trinidad, Colorado; sisters, Betty (Don) Dean and Jeanie (Lew) Smith of Hutchinson, Kansas, Viola (DuWayne) of Indian River, Michigan; and other relatives and many friends. Visitation is private.
