Long Sr. Longtime Claremore resident Edward D. Long Sr. died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at his home at the age of 63. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 at First Baptist Church, Claremore. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1-8 p.m. on Thursday. The son of Ed A. and Delta Dean Peters-Long was born Feb. 7, 1939 in McAlester. After graduating from Oklahoma State University, Ed married Ginger Kay Swilling on March 24, 1963, in McAlester. Ed served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and flew the 1,000th mission over Vietnam. He was the assistant city manager for McAlester and city manager for Durant before starting his career with State Farm Insurance. He was with State Farm Insurance for 29 years as a manager and agent. Ed has been a resident of Claremore for 22 years. He was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and began the children's church. He was a past member of the Lion's Club. Ed was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife, Ginger of the home; sons: Edward D. Long Jr. and wife, Laura, and Bruce P. Long and wife, Dawn; parents, Ed A. and Delta Long; and seven grandchildren, Ashley, Sheridan, Maverick, Garrison, Bryson, Madison and Andersen Long, all of Claremore. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gene Long.
