Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Jack passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002. He was 77. Born in Akins, Okla., on Dec. 31, 1924, Jack was the son of Roy Wayne and Ruby Iola Spangler Martin. He was reared in Akins, just outside of Sallisaw, and received his education in Stillwater. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served his country for seven years. Following Jack's discharge, he returned to Stillwater where he attended school at OSU. A lucrative job in the shrimping business lured Jack to southern Texas where he worked for a time with his brother. Eventually, Jack moved on to Wichita and began a career in the refrigeration business. His employer soon became his father-in-law, as Jack and Lylith Mae Dunaway wed in Wichita on Feb. 2, 1957. After a time in Wichita, the couple retuned to Jack's Stillwater roots, where he operated his own air conditioning business. The family moved into Tulsa and Jack changed careers, becoming a pipefitter. In the early 1970s, the Martins moved to Claremore and then to acreage in the Sequoyah area, where their children attended school When Lylith passed away in 1988, Jack moved back to Claremore and then to Disney until the present time. He always enjoyed his country life, his garden, the birds and small creatures and working the land. He found satisfaction and happiness in the simple things he was able to enjoy at home. Those who survived and carry cherished memories of Jack Martin include his children, Brenda Martin of Disney, Jacqueline Martin of Fairview, Texas, and Kent Martin of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey and Chris Clark of Fairview, and Keeann and Jake Martin of Fort Worth; siblings, Ann Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ben Martin and Jerry Martin, both of Kansas City, Mo., Jay Martin of Georgia and David Martin of Claremore. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brother, Aubrey Martin of Verdigris. ************************************************************************* Transcribed from the Claremore Progess Newspaper, we sincerely thank them for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
