Jerry passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. He was 62. The son of Dib and Jewel Medlock Oquin was born Dec. 9, 1940 in Porter. He graduated from Inola High School and continued his education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he received his masters degree in education. He married his college sweetheart, Charlotte Phillips, on Aug. 10, 1962, at the First Baptist Church of Inola. They completed their senior year and began their teaching careers at Burbank School in Osage County. The next year they moved back to Inola and Jerry took a teaching job in Claremore. In 1966, Jerry became the elementary principal in Inola. Jerry made a decision to get out of the teaching profession to sell insurance for a few years, but because of his associations with students and fellow teachers and his love of teaching, he returned to the classroom and later served as an administrative assistant. He retired from teaching in Inola Schools in 1992. After retirement, Jerry and Charlotte moved northwest of Inola on the old Ellis Ranch. Jerry enjoyed ranching and having his friends and family in his home. He was an active member of the Inola First Baptist Church and involved in the Inola community. He is preceded in death by his brother, Max Oquin. Family members surviving are his wife, Charlotte of the home; children Kelly Lyn and husband, Mickey Martin of Inola, Stacy Ann and husband, Michael Payne of Verdigris, and Taft Ray and wife, Michelle Oquin of Inola; grandchildren, Kyla Ray Martin, Bryn, Stacia, and Laef Payne, and Gabe, Katey, Caleb, and Jerry Thomas Oquin; parents, Dib and Jewel Oquin of Inola; and sister-in-law Gail Whitworth of Inola; nieces Gaye Ann and son Dillon, and Erin Oquin of Inola.
