Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pete passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002. He was 72. Born in Glenpool to Charles and Mary Hays Petty on Aug. 14, 1930, Pete was reared and educated in Oklahoma City and Claremore. On Feb. 4, 1955, Pete and Betty Marie Timmerman were married at Claremore. Two sons, Steven and Tommy, blessed this union. Pete joined the Air Force in 1957, beginning a career of military service. Before he retired from the military in 1972, he had been stationed in Florida, Texas, the Philippines and Alaska. He was stationed in Alaska when it became the 49th state admitted to the Union in 1959. After Pete's retirement, he and Betty returned to Claremore, allowing their sons to graduate from Claremore schools. Pete began working for the U.S. Postal Service at the Claremore station. He was a city letter carrier for more than 15 years, retiring from his second career in 1990. After a lengthy illness, Betty passed away on Christmas Day in 1994. Pete was active at the senior citizens center, where he enjoyed visiting with friends and playing dominoes. It was here that he was introduced to Ora Florence "Flo" Montgomery. Pete and Flo were married on June 4, 1995 and shared several years together. On Feb. 9, 2001, Flo passed away. Pete is survived by his children, Steve Petty and his wife, Sherri, of Sapulpa, and Tommy Petty and his wife, Leslie, of Claremore; grandchildren, Amber and Aaron Petty, also of Sapulpa, and Sara, Eric, Scott and JoAnna Petty, all of Claremore; two great-grandchildren, Deayton and Keaydra Petty of Sapulpa; brothers, Murry and Eddie Petty, both of Tulsa; and sister, Doris Matthews of Bartlesville.
