Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Bernice passed away at her home in Langley on Saturday, May 25, 2002. She was 64. A native of Claremore, Bernice was born on Oct. 8, 1937 to Lerskove "Hoke" and Georgia Gouard Chaney. She graduated from Claremore High School and then married Walter Lee Bingham. Three children blessed this union and the couple lived in several Oklahoma communities, but much of that time was spent in Claremore. Time spent in Tulsa and Bartlesville afforded Bernice the opportunity to manage and operate several retail stores and restaurants, one of which was Bingham Brothers Western Wear in Tulsa. She then worked for a time as assistant manager of the Dollar Store in Claremore with her Aunt Thelma. She also operated the Lucky's and Music Box Lounges. Bernice's next employment was overseeing bingo for the Rogers County Work Training Center at the Claremore Fair Grounds, which she did for nine years. Following her retirement, Bernice moved to Langley. She and Raymond Peterson met and were married at Miami, Okla. on May 4, 1994. With all the employment opportunities that Bernice embraced, the most rewarding job she undertook was that of mother. This was a title she wore so well. The matriarch of her family, she was strong and understanding. Holidays and events that brought the family together were always special occasions for her. When life provided time for rest and relaxation, Bernice enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her sisters and fishing with her aunt Thelma. Birthdays were occasions when she and her sisters spent the day together with lunch and bingo. Bernice's survivors for whom she was always there are her husband, Raymond of their home in Langley; children, Kit and wife Rea Bingham, also of Langley, Rhonda and husband Bob Jackson of Ketchum and Randy and wife Monica Bingham of Foyil; grandchildren, Aprill Mallory, Courtney Bingham, Ryan and Brent Burgess, Gerald, Bobbie, B.J., and Kristi Jackson, Randall Bingham and Mandy Smalley; nine great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, George and wife Roberta Chaney, Wonda Oard, Noland "Cotton" Chaney and wife Randi, and Willia Mae Jones; brother-in-law, Rex Peterson; and a host of other extended family members and friends. Bernice loved and was much loved, as evidenced by a tribute from great-niece, Courtney Evans: "Your Light and Your Love Has Always Soared Through The Sky up Above So Beneath and Behind All The Tears and Sadness There is The Beauty Of your Life Your Smiles and your Words Somehow Makes One's Hopes And Dreams Shine Through This Is What Has Made You Such a Unique Person Your Body May Be Gone But For Us Your Spirit Lives On We Will Always Remember You and All The things That You Have Done The Only Comfort That We Have Is To Know That You Are Going To A Better Place, We Are Going To Miss You Very Much, And You Will Continue To Be In Our Hearts Forever And Always" ************************************************************************* We thank the Claremore Progess Newspaper for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
