Roberts will be laid to rest beside his wife of 59 years, Anita, at Sageeyah Cemetery, under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. J.C. passed away Friday afternoon, May 24, 2002 at the Claremore Veteran's Center, where he had made his home the past four years. He was 85. Born Feb. 23, 1917 at Turkey Ford, Oklahoma, a small town northeast of Grove, J.C. was the son of Preston and Bertie Frances Roberts. He attended several schools in both Oklahoma and Kentucky. J.C. and Anita Hanes met when two of his sisters introduced them. They were married April 18, 1939 at Fairland, Okla. After a brief time Fairland, they moved to Grove. With work hard to find in those days, J.C. found himself in several different states, sometimes leaving his family behind in order to provide for them. In 1945, he served his country, but due to the war's end and his responsibilities at home with a wife and children, he was honorably discharged early. He worked as a construction carpenter after being discharged. With his skills, he built the family a home in California. But when it was complete, they chose to sell the home instead and return to Oklahoma. The Sequoyah community has been home all through the years. Anita passed away on October 17, 1998. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, J.C. had a strong commitment to his family through the years. Those that survive are his children, Lavon Isaac-Lower and her husband Clyde of Claremore, Bettie Fuller and her husband Ben of Edmond, Sue Trickey of Owasso, Darrell Roberts and his wife Sharon of Adair, and Sandi Kissler and her husband Leroy of Claremore; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Opal Smith of Tehachapi, Calif.; Ruth Crew of Hesperia, Calif.; and Aleta Vomocil of Sun City West, Ariz., and a host of other extended family and many friends, especially those that lovingly cared for him at the VA Center these last years. He was preceded by his parents, wife, infant daughter, Patricia Ann and sister, Vivian Roberts. ************************************************************************* We thank the Claremore Progess Newspaper for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
