Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimers Association, 1311 NW 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209. Samuel was born April 13, 1921 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to George and Laura (Morrison) Stelle, and he died on Friday, October 3, 2003 in Ashland, OR. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Virginia Scharfe on Dec. 6, 1967, in Carson City, NV. He worked as a paving engineer. He enjoyed music. He played any stringed instrument, and he built and repaired violins. He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers and the founder of the Rogue Drifters. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Stelle of Talent; two children, Steven Stelle of Central Point, and Sandra Sixkiller of Jay, OK; a step- daughter, Gail Scharfe of LaGrande; two sisters, Martha Cowan of Medford, and Evylean Cearley of Spavinaw, Oklahoma; 2 granddaughters; and 7 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Andra Faye Stelle; two brothers Paul and Herbert Stelle; and one sister Nellie Hughes.
