Rev. Ray Crawford will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery beside her husband, Cap Striplin, who passed away Dec. 14, 1991. Friends may visit Marie at the funeral home until 8 tonight. She passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002 at the age of 87. Born in Wagoner on Oct. 11, 1915, Marie's parents were Charles and Samantha "Tiny" Center Harvey. She was reared and educated in her birth community, where she and Cap Striplin met. Neighbors, when Cap first saw Marie, he was sure he wanted to know this beautiful girl better. So, visits to the dime store where she worked, a soda after work or a movie together brought their acquaintance to engagement and on Jan. 29, 1939, the two married in Miami. In the early years of their marriage, Cap served his country overseas and Marie worked in the powder plant in Pryor, both doing their patriotic duty. When Cap was stationed in the States, they lived in California, but when he was discharged, they returned to make their home in Oklahoma. While in Inola, the Striplin family was comfortably supported with Mr. Striplin's operation of an Inola filling station - Cap's Snappy Service - and Marie was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother. Skiatook was home for a few years before they settled in Claremore in 1969. Having four children in less than five years, Marie was unquestionably a busy young mother, but the time she spent with them was by all means priority time. She taught them all of life's important lessons. She even taught them how to do fun things like singing. She taught them the value of a good education and Marie's two sons and two daughters knew proper etiquette and practiced it both at home and away. Not only was Marie teaching, but she was also constantly providing. She cut her children's hair and she made all of their clothes. And like many people in that particular time, family funds were limited but the Striplin children never lacked for anything they needed. Marie gave much - the most important gift given to the Striplin children was a happy home with two committed and loving parents. Marie took up oil painting at the age of 65, provided time to turn her creative talents in a new direction. Ever selfless, Marie shared even these creations with her family. After Cap's passing, Marie continued to nurture and care for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found time to extend her selfless nature beyond her own home by giving to her church and community. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Inola, Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. Marie is survived by her children, Marilyn Lewis and her husband, John, of Claremore, Linda Boydston and her husband, Dan, of Morris, Ted and Charles Striplin, both of Claremore; five grandsons, Curtis Boydston, Kaleb Striplin, Matthew Striplin, Lee Striplin and Stephen Striplin; four granddaughters, Anita Williams, Dana Brunson-Homer, Jennifer Wilson and Samantha Striplin; and six great-grandchildren, Tara and Emily Williams, Leah and Paul Striplin, Jake Wilson and Raina Homer. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her grandson, Darin Brunson, her siblings, Florence Nickle, Clyde Harvey, Walter Harvey and Lee Harvey, and five siblings who died in childhood. ************************************************************************* Transcribed from the Claremore Progess Newspaper, we sincerely thank them for allowing us to post these obits on the Rogers Co., OK USGenwebpages http://www.claremoreprogress.com/ *************************************************************************
