"Jake" Salisbury Sherman J.R. "Jake" Salisbury, longtime resident of Claremore, died Monday, July 1, 2002 in Tulsa at the age of 67 years. He was born July 6, 1934 in Dawson, Okla., to Sherman Wesley and Pansy Viola (Hays) Salisbury. He was married Jan. 29, 1955 at Wellington, Texas to the former Norma Ruth Medlin. He spent most of his working life as a welder. He was an active member of Bethel Chapel in Foyil. Jake enjoyed a variety of pastimes, but his primary interest was his family and church. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002 at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso. Officiating ministers will be Rev. Tom Anderson and Rev. Jim Carney. Serving as casket bearers will be C.L. Merley, Allen Sutton, Dusty Danderson, Ray Crutchfield, Sherman Paul Salisbury and Justin Hastings. Honorary casket bearers will be Lavell Chisum, Phil Coe, John Evans, and Karl McKee. Committal services and interment will immediately follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Okla. Loving family members who survive include daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Kay and Fred Beck of Oregon, and Chris and Ray Crutchfield of Claremore; son and daughter-in law, Sherman and Paula Salisbury of Claremore; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Leonard Todd of Claremore, Ricky Leon Salisbury of Collinsville and Freddy Salisbury of Liberty Mounds; and sisters, Flossie Merley of Collinsville, Darlene Trundle of Inola and Freda Buttery of Haskell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Ruth; daughter, Lucretia Ann, two brothers; and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sherman "Jake" Salisbury Memorial, P.O. Box 53, Owasso, OK 74055.
