Rev. Paul Simpson will officiate. Rice Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements; friends may visit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home. Opal was born in Piney, Ark., on Aug. 20, 1910 to John and Ada Thomas Stanfill. On May 19, 1926 at Emporia, Kan., she married Frank Ward, a young man from Foyil who was living at the Kansas boarding house where she worked. Discussions with Frank led Opal to make the decision to be baptized and she did so in the Chelsea First Baptist Church. The couple farmed in the Foyil area for 23 years, then moved to Claremore in 1953. Opal supported and assisted Frank in every business endeavor and undertook some of her own, including selling Luzier Cosmetics for 15 years. In 1985, Opal was named Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women's Club. Opal's life was one of service. She taught Sunday school, volunteered at her church, and at the hospital auxiliary, also with Meals on Wheels and as a member of Eastern Star. She was a gracious hostess who delighted in feeding and entertaining her guests. She loved to play cards, including pinochle and canasta. She is survived by four sisters, Sudie Ray of Bloomington, Calif., Delores Smith of Mentone, Texas, Wanda Davis of Longview, Texas, and Movella Griffin of Claremore and one brother, John Stanfill of Chelsea. She was preceded by her husband, Frank sisters, Stella and Lula brother, Eugene and two infant siblings. ***********************************************************************
