"Runt" Smart will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ with Rev. Mardell Lynch officiating, assisted by Rev. T. Grady Nanney, Shawnee. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Fred Berry, Milt Lindley, Don Smith, T.E. Burch, John Sandlin and Walter Billingsley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are M.S. Whitehead, W.F. Parker, G.O. Wallace, Art Grall, Oscar Rhea, Everett Campbell and James Mulkey. Smart died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Mercy hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born in Carter County on January 31, 1892. He is survived by his wife Addle, Wewoka; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin Nurse, Wewoka; Mrs. D.W. Moore. Whiteface, Tex.; and Mrs. H.L. McKenzie, Ulysses, Kan. Other survivors include his stepmother Mrs. Minnie Smart, Wewoka, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Foy Elliott, Borger, Tex.: Mrs. R.A. McClanahan, Tulsa; Mrs. Howard Faught, Wewoka; Ernest Smart, Oklahoma City; Jack Smart, Oklahoma City; Jo Smart Ft. Bragg, N.C.; and Jerry Smartt, Wewoka. Surviving grandchildren are Deloras Drumm, Doris Nurse, David Moore, Deanna Moore, Dorien McKenzie, and Doris McKenzie. Guy Ames, pastor of the First Methodist church here, will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Smart, 84, died at 7:55 a.m. Monday, in a Henryetta Hospital. He was born in Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Jearl Smart, Emit Lavon Smart, R.L. Smart, Harold Smart, Clayton Smart and Allan Smart. Survivors include Smart's widow, Bessie; a son Floyd H. Smart of Wewoka; three daughters, Mrs William W. Jackson of Coffeyville, Kan., Mrs. H.G. Nipper of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Mrs. R.B. Smith of Sunray, Tex.; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. ************************ SMART, FLOYD WEWOKA NEWSPAPER JUNE 27, 1974 pg 1 RITES FOR SMART SET # 899 A Wewoka man, Floyd Smart, who resided here 28 years died today of an apparent heart attack. He lived at 225 East Cedar and died at the age of 69. he owned Smart Welding Company. Survivors are his wife, Bernice Smart of the home; one son, Allen Smart of Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters, Donna Crawford, Seminole, Melba Holly, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Bernice Ogle of Miami, Oklahoma. Also, two sisters, Mrs. William Johnson and Gladys Bonner; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, June 29, at Stout-Sarber Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, The minister will be Rev. Elson Hargrove, pastor of the Methodist Church. Emmitt Smart, 62, and son, Haywood Smart, both of Cromwell, were killed Monday afternoon in a train and car accident in Barstow, Calif. No details were learned. W.E. Smart is an uncle of E.C. Smart was born June 29, 1941, in Wewoka and had been living in Castro Valley, Calif., prior to his death. Stout-Sarber Funeral home, Wewoka, is in charge of arrangements. ************************************ SMART, JEARL DAILY OKLAHOMAN TUESDAY NOVEMBER 22, 1994 STATE ENTREPRENEUR DIES # 5094 Funeral services are set for Wednesday for Jearl Smart, nursing home industry entrepreneur and civic leader who died Sunday. Smart, of Wewoka, was 72. services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Wewoka. Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery in Wewoka. Smart, originally of Cromwell, was instrumental in the growth of the nursing home profession during his 35-year career. He provided hundreds with job opportunities and assisted many in achieving their educational goals. At an early age, Smart was around oil fields in Seminole and Wewoka. After graduating from Cromwell High School in 1940, he served in the Air Force and was a World War II veteran. He attained a bachelors degree in Geology from Oklahoma State University in 1949. He built his first nursing facility in 1960 in Wewoka and served as president of the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Jo Smart; a daughter; two sons; two daughter-in-laws and seven grandchildren. A scholarship fund has been established to assist individuals who wish to further their education in health care.
