Avis was born July 16, 1926, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma but resided in Bakersfield most of her life. On January 5, 2002, our Heavenly Father wrapped his arms around her and took her home to be with Him. She fought a courageous fight with lung disease, and God knew she had suffered enough. Avis was a licensed nurse, and caring for the elderly was what she enjoyed most. She was so kind and tenderhearted that she made lasting friends wherever she went. Avis was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her three daughters, Twyla Jamerson, Carole Finch and Beulah Johnson and her husband Daryl. Her grandchildren, who will miss her terribly are Craig Uranga, Dennis Hignite, Molli Finch, Dustin Seguin, Bradley Pence, CAnne and D.J. Johnson; her great grandchildren, Bryant, Brent and Alissa Uranga; her sister, Maudine Corey; her brothers, Ozzie and Olen Burgess and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Grant Grove; son, David Earl Flanagan; brother, Alvis Burgess and her parents, Maude and Davroe Burgess of Oklahoma. The family would like to say a special Thank you to Maria Rosalez for being so caring and loving, not only to mother, but to all of the family while she helped care for our mother. We will never forget you. You were mothers guardian angel. God Bless you! Mom was such a wonderful person and we are secure in the knowledge that she is now out of pain and enjoying all of Gods blessings and basking in the light of all of Gods love. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and all that knew her. We weep now, not for her, but for ourselves because we have lost the one person that we knew loved us unconditionally. We love you and will miss you. Till we meet again!. For additional service information or floral delivery information, please contact Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles St., Bakersfield, CA 872-8200.
