She was schooled in Oklahoma and graduated from Roland High School in 1942. Mary's work career took her to Washington, D.C., Dallas, Texas, Fort Smith, Arkansas, Arvin, California and finally to Bakersfield, California. She began work as a Clerk Typist for the California Department of Highways (Cal Trans) in Bakersfield and retired from Cal Trans as a Highway Field Office Assistant. Mary met her beloved "Douglas" at Cal Trans and they shared 53 wonderful years together. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. She especially enjoyed their trips to the desert. Mary was the family historian, keeping in touch with all her family members, and was an extra "Mom" to the nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas; parents, Frank and Tresa Hevron; brothers, John and G. W. Hevron; and sister, Willa Cottrell. She is survived by her sisters and their husbands, Othel Lee and Wally Cox and Velma and Jim McAdams; brother-in-law, Leland Brown; nephews, John Hevron, Kendall Griggs, Danny and Michael Hevron, Douglas Brown, Jerry and Keith Williams, Jim Otis; nieces, Patricia Chatfield, Joan Oglivie, Suzanne Ostermann, Linda Otis; godson, Nicolas Lizalde; goddaughter, Melissa Conti and her lifelong and dearest friends, Vivian Lizalde and Vanessa King. Mary is with Douglas now, and we know that she is happy but leaves a saddened family and friends. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the nursing staff in the CC Unit at Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion given to her and her family. There are no services at her request.
