Garland passed away Wednesday evening at home with his family by his side. Garland was born October 29, 1924 in Moffett, OK. He moved to California as a young boy and served his country during World War II. Upon returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Anna Lee, on March 31, 1949 in Wasco, CA. Garland became an Operating Engineer in 1953 and retired in 1986. He loved to hunt, fish and go camping with his friends and family. He especially loved camping and fishing at Lake Isabella. Upon his trek in life he met numerous people and if you ever had the chance to meet Garland you would remember as he never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Lee, children, Alan and Mary Shackelford, Gail and Wayne Martin, Shirley Shackelford, Ray and Diana Shackelford and Mike Shackelford; brothers, John and Junior Waldon; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. We would like to give a special thanks to Optimal Hospice for giving dad what he had asked for, the dignity to pass away at home with his family by his side. HE DID IT HIS WAY. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Optimal Hospice. www.bakersfield.com/obits">www.bakersfield.com/obits Published in the Bakersfield Californian on 4/22/2006. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Sequoyah County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/sequoyah/sequoyah.htm
