Toney, 77, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Chaplain Chris Kutin officiating. Entombment will follow at Llano Mausoleum. Mr. Toney was born in Gore, Okla. During World War II he served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific as a heavy equipment operator. He also served during the Korean War. In 1947, he moved from Colorado Springs, Colo., to Amarillo. He was a Protestant. Mr. Toney held a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering. A corrosion engineer, he was a member of the National Corrosion Association for more than 36 years. After returning to Colorado Springs in 1975, he received a special commendation from the Southern Gas Association for his help in establishing a school in corrosion mitigation. In 1980 he was certified by the state of Wyoming as a welding inspector. He married Lois T. Jones in 1954 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lynn Jones-May of Jacksonville, Ark.; a brother, Raymond Toney of Phoenix; a sister, Violet Palmtree of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and two granddaughters. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
