More excitement than damage apparently was caused. A pressure chamber blew up. No one was injured, but damage was done to the roof by the blast. 25 Years Ago: Award for second runner-up in the Miss Murray Pageant at Murray State College was received by Mitzi Worley, daughter of Mrs. Eva C. Worley of Duncan. She was one of four coeds singled out for special honors in the annual pageant. She was a freshman majoring in physical education. 10 Years Ago: Red River Vo-Tech students Rita Renfrow and Randy Williams showed Duncan High School freshman Michael Ford and sophomores Elisha Renteria and Angel Salazar how a two-color printing press works. The high school students were making the Vo-Tech tour for a closer look at job opportunities they might seek when they graduate. Five Years Ago: OSU Extension Agent Lynne Beam helped Plato students Abbie Barnett, Justin Steel, Earl Peel and Madeline Murrell with the Children’s Fun Fair hats. The Sixth Annual Children’s Fun Fair “Reach For the Stars” was held at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. One Year Ago: During the fifth anniversary of Project Graduation — Duncan’s alternative to post graduation private parties — the parents of Duncan’s graduation Class of 2001 had been at work throughout the entire year and covered some ground to make the big party a huge success.
