The flushing helped removed sand and other matter from the hydrants and water mains. At the same time firemen checked the hydrants for any needed repairs. The flushing was recommended once a year by fire insurance underwriters engineers. 25 Years Ago: Edward L. Apple was elected a vice president of the Security National Bank and Trust Co. at the monthly meeting of the bank’s board of directors. J.A. Maurer, board chairman, said Apple’s duties will continue in the areas of administration, marketing and corporate planning. 10 Years Ago: Woodrow Wilson fourth grander Casey Brooksher, 10-year-old son of Keith and Linda Brooksher, spent his spring break busy helping to bring the space shuttle back to earth. It wasn’t the really space shuttle, but it was real enough for Brooksher, who spent a week at the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala. Five Years Ago: A group of U.S. Marines gathered in Duncan to reminisce about their battles in World War II, catch up with old friends and acquaintances and enjoy themselves. Marines know how to enjoy themselves, but all the Marines at the convention would admit to was saluting officers with their left hands. One Year Ago: A pursuit that started in Byers, Texas, ended just south of Marlow when law enforcement officers shot out the tires of the fleeing vehicle.
