B.J. Baker, whose wife lived in Magnolia Camp, was featured in a telecast over WKY-TV in Oklahoma City. Baker’s “Reports on the 45th” was presented. M/Sgt. Baker describe the work of G-3 section, which he was attached to in the 45th Division. He was formerly employed with Magnolia Petroleum Company in Wewoka before leaving for service with the National Guard. 25 Years Ago: The Duncan Evening Lions Club third annual “Telethon for Sight” was aired over cablevision channel 8. The local civic group had set a goal of $3,500 for the year’s telethon. All contributions are used for sight conservation. 10 Years Ago: An eight-woman jury decided a former teacher was competent to assume the head football coaching duties in 1987 at Bray-Doyle High School. The jury returned five verdicts in a lawsuit filed by former teacher Linda Sue Bratcher against the Bray-Doyle school district. Ms. Bratcher ordinally filed the lawsuit in 1987, alleging Bray-Doyle’s policy for recalling laid-off teachers was illegal and that the district discriminated against her. Five Years Ago: Dr. Irene Seay was named 1997 Oklahoma Association of Elementary Schools Principals’ State Administrator of the Year and she wanted her students to be among the first to know. She told her husband first, but she felt all the students should be apart of the honor as well. One Year Ago: Marlow fourth-grader Heather Wilson attempted to retrieve "food" off the ground while blindfolded during an Outdoor Classroom lesson on preadators and preys.
