The police began looking for cars whose owners had several unpaid fines. One man had to pay a $1 each on 11 delinquent tickets, plus a towing charge. 25 Years Ago: Duncan police detectives were investigating an armed robbery attempt which occurred at Gibson Discount Center on U.S. 81. Shirley King, a store checker, reported the incident to police. She told police a suspect approached the cash register and told her to collect all the money from the registers, as she was removing the money the assistant store manager approached her and when Miss King looked up the suspect was gone. 10 Years Ago: Duncan was about to throw the biggest party in 100 years and members of the decorating committee of Centennial Duncan Inc. met to discuss ??? Five Years Ago: When Bobbie Dunham and Liz Peveto were asked if they wouldn’t mind painting a wall at Liberty School, they had something grand in mind. The wall, which took five weeks to paint, turned into a mural of early Oklahoma, complete with a representation of the original Liberty School in the background. The two, with help from some of the students at the school south of Duncan, painted railroad scenes and flowers to complete the school’s gymnasium and another classroom. One Year Ago: Mary Baker of Duncan made cancer caps at OHCE’s Sew-in. She is not a member of OHCE, but that wasn’t a requirement to help out in the effort. Organizers said over 50 women signed in at the Stephens County Fairgrounds to lend a hand making sleep caps for cancer patients, adult bibs, wheel chair tote bags and the Ouchie dolls. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
