Water was escaping from the break at the rate of 500 gallons a minute according to gauges at the filter plant. 25 Years Ago: The Athene Club ended its current club season on a happy note by increasing its annual scholarships to $1,000 and $750. The scholarships were awarded at the Duncan High School Awards Assembly. 10 Years Ago: Waurika’s Tera Bernard ended her remarkable high school track career with a remarkable performance as the Lady Eagles’ senior collected three gold medals in the Class A State Meet at Yukon. Bernard was among eight area individuals and relay teams which scored points in the variety of small school state meets held. Five Years Ago: Halliburton discarded a test derrick, which the City of Duncan accepted without a permanent site selected and stored it temporarily at the Duncan Municipal Airport. The Duncan Chamber of Commerce and Industry requested that the derrick be places on permanent display in Fuqua Park, near the railroad engine. One Year Ago: The Duncan Chamber of Commerce and Industry joined forces with the Duncan Golf and Country Club to provide a fireworks show the Fourth of July. Along with the fireworks display the Duncan Jaycees were planning a carnival in the parking lot.
