The watched firemen slide down a pole from the second floor, the day’s Duncan Banner being produced and dropped in at the courthouse. They were under the direction of Sister Mary Agatha. 25 Years Ago: Marlow national guardsmen gained a new name, new weapons and a new mission. Instead of being Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 158th Field Artillery, it became known as Co. D, 2nd Battalion (TOW), 180th Infantry. The TOW stands for Tube Launched; Optical Sighted; Wire Guided Weapon and is used as an anti-tank weapon. 10 Years Ago: Lloyd the Llama won a new lease on life in Duncan after his owner defended him before the city council. Sandi Hamilton appealed to the council after being notified by the city staff that Lloyd had to go. She asserted Lloyd was the victim of misunderstanding. In the end, City Manager Doug O. Johnson said he would reverse his order to revoke Lloyd’s permit. Five Years Ago: More than $1 million in scholarships were awarded to Duncan High School seniors during the annual Duncan High School Scholarship Assembly. Dustin Blake Bearden, the son of David and Sharon Bearden, received the largest scholarship to the United States Air Force Academy. Presented by Col. John W. Hightower, Bearden’s four-year Air Force Academy Scholarship is worth $250,000. One Year Ago: John Galloway of Ace Hardware met longtime Ace Hardware spokesman and former NFL coach John Madden in front of the world's largest "toolbox," a huge truck designed as an Ace toolbox.
