The book, “Let There Be Bread,” was written by Robert Brittain. 25 Years Ago: A washed-out bridge east of Duncan on Elk Road was just one of many which could be found in Stephens County after torrential downpours. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Youngblood of Duncan surveyed the damage to the bridge. The Youngbloods and several area families in the area of the wash-out were “stranded” in their homes because bridges to their homes were out. 10 Years Ago: Duncan Mayor Wayne Holden received the grand tour of Duncan Elementary Enrichment Program’s Centennial map project from Emerson fifth grader Natalie Crowdis, daughter of Bill and Becky Crowdis. The map was painted on a parking lot at Will Rogers Elementary. Five Years Ago: Because of a tradition that faded away about two decades ago, about 300 people were expected to visit Duncan over a period of four days. Eight regional Legion teams came together in Duncan to play in the Inaugural John Birdsong Memorial Wood Bat Tournament. One Year Ago: Elizabeth Hewett, Korie Brown, Sasha Moore and about 300 classmates from the Duncan Sixth Grade Center laced up for a morning of skating at the Paradise Family Fun Center. The students were all graduates of Duncan’s Drug Awareness Resistance Training (DARE) program. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
