George Seals, assistant county agent arranged the program. Billie Sitton and Barbara Slocum of Meridian show how ceramic trays are made. Deyo Paddyaker of Empire spoke on conservation. 25 Years Ago: Waurika dam had been getting its share of water along with the rest of the area, but since the reservoir’s gates were not closed the structure was retaining only a small amount of water. Following two days of rain found water rushing out of the gates and through the exit channel. 10 Years Ago: Students at Woodrow Wilson Elementary had a chance to take a ride in space, of sorts. Mark Woolpert of Norman, director of “Ticket to Tomorrow” program conducted by the Oklahoma Aerospace Academy, University of Oklahoma, used a bullhorn to address students inside a inflatable space shuttle at the school. Five Years Ago: Duncan High School Principal John Hopper and students Seth Pearce and Kevin Charlson viewed the school’s new elevator. The elevator, in addition to meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, provided accessibility to all areas of the school for all students. Charlson said he had been at the school for four years and had never seen the building’s upstairs. One Year Ago: Employees at Latham’s Plumbing were greeted to wet floors after the business’ roof was peeled away by late night winds. Owner Lynn Latham said about 6,000 square feet, about half the building, suffered some water damage. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
