A semi-trailer was used to take the 85 students to and from the lake. Mothers of some of the students fried over 50 pounds of chicken for the picnic. 25 Years Ago: Representatives of the distributing companies supplying Duncan grocery and convenience stores with sex magazines agreed to stop delivering most of the material to local merchants in wake of a county- wide crackdown on allegedly obscene material. A police survey indicated between 68 and 70 titled sex magazines and eight lines of pocketbooks pandering sex were being sold at local stores. 10 Years Ago: Mark Remley and Randy Wilson worked on the foundation for the future District 3 county road barn near Comanche. The 5,500-square- foot-garage and office complex, estimated at $50,000, was built in the new county yard just west of Comanche. Remley and Wilson worked for Ray Tilley Construction of Duncan. Five Years Ago: Duncan running back Jason Benson and Wes Wainscott received “Players of the Year” honors from KRHD’s Tim Rhoades. Benson was named offensive player of the year, while Wainscott was the defensive player of the year. One Year Ago: If Larry Hagman has his way, a screenplay written by two local men will be made into a movie that will be seen by billions of people. The actor, known for portraying Texas oil man J.R. Ewing in the TV series “Dallas,” is confident he can help Bill Neely and Chris Jefferies get their screenplay “Eagle of the Comanches,” produced. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
