They were Pfc. Charles Welleford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Welleford, and Pfc. Leon Wampler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wampler. 25 Years Ago: School's out and motorists should watch out for the large number of smaller pedestrians who will be moving about the city streets this summer. John and David Tomasko demonstrated two modes of transportation, the bicycle and skateboard, which are popular with youngsters and should be watched for by motorists. 10 Years Ago: After a nine-month project to upgrade storm sirens and buy new equipment, Velma's civil defense program can now give the entire town warning of tornadoes. A group of volunteers and town workers erected the new storm siren near Velma's football field, ending the long quest to provide tornado warnings to the town and outlying areas. Five Years Ago: Marlow Elementary teacher Darlene Black's fourth grade class was one of 25 runners-up in the nationwide Book It! contest. Students Kendra King, DeNita McGuire and Try Mackey each submitted a symbol with Mackey's entry winning runner up out of 1,500 entries. One Year Ago: Volunteers Kim Jackson and Callie Yeager spent their second day at the Duncan Public Library helping with the children's summer reading program.
