The latest project of the church was the construction during the year of a home for the pastor, the Rev. J. Thurmond George. 25 Years Ago: There were 117 new members in the Duncan Chamber of Commerce following a one-day membership blitz campaign. The new member sign-up was the largest since 1969 when 125 were secured in a week-long campaign. 10 Years Ago: After Easter 1991, Edith Sims took home one of the lilies used to decorate First Christian Church for the holiday. She set the pot by her garage and forgot all about it until she noticed that it was full of blooms. The lily did so well with neglect that Mrs. Sims said she may just “forget” about it again. Five Years Ago: Glenn Harris, vice president of the Duncan chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association, accepted the charter for his organization from state president Lonnie Treck and state vice president Case Mobeck, both of Broken Arrow. The presentation was made during a meeting of the local chapter 771 of the organization. One Year Ago: Judy Zamarripa and Cynthia Allen were chosen as the DESPO Employees of the Year. They were honored at the state Education Support Personnel of Oklahoma’s annual conference held at the Airport Holiday Inn. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Stephens County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/stephens/stephens.htm
